Town sign altered again

The additions were found on Monday morning and had gone by Tuesday afternoon.

The sign on the Hartbury road that welcomes visitors to Seabrook was found on Monday morning to have been altered.

The sign carries the name of the town and its motto, Fidelis Mari et Litori, which is usually given in English as Faithful to Sea and Shore. On Monday it carried the motto with additions.

The matter was reported to the Town Hall shortly after eight o’clock by a woman who was walking her dog. The additions had been removed by Tuesday afternoon.

It is the fourth time the sign has been altered since the autumn, according to the Council.

The Mayor, Councillor Lucy Fielding, said the sign had been restored and that she would not be commenting further.

The Amenities Committee considered the sign on Tuesday evening with the press and the public excluded. No statement was issued afterwards.

Seabrook police said the matter had been recorded. Anyone with information is asked to write to the station.
