Notices issued by Seabrook Town Council are displayed here and on the board outside the Town Hall. A selection is shown at any one time. Letters from residents are published where the writer has asked for this, or has not asked for the contrary. The Council replies to all correspondence in due course. It is unable to discuss a notice on the day it appears.

Letter
In praise of the 4.15
I write in praise of the 4.15 bus. It has left Hartbury at 4.15 on every occasion I have used it in eleven years. I understand that the Council has received complaints about it. I should not like it to be altered. It is the one thing in the district that does what it says.

Bin day
I have put my bin out on a Tuesday for as long as there have been bins. Nobody came on Tuesday. Nobody came on Wednesday either, which is the day your notice said. I should like to know who decided this, and whether that person has ever had to bring a bin back in twice.
Mrs Hodge, Harbour Lane

Eating on the promenade
Following an incident on Thursday involving a pasty, persons eating out of doors on the promenade are advised to keep food covered between mouthfuls. The Council cannot accept responsibility for food taken by gulls. The replacement of pasties is a matter for the vendor.

War memorial: the wreaths
Poppies have been removed from the wreaths at the war memorial in Seabrook Gardens. The wreaths themselves have not been moved and nothing else has been disturbed. This has now happened on more than one occasion. Anyone able to help is asked to write to the Town Hall.

Refuse collection: change of day
From next week household refuse will be collected on Wednesday in place of Tuesday. This applies throughout the town. Bins should be at the kerb by 7 am. Bins put out on Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday.
Seabrook Town Council
Refuse collection: a correction
The notice headed “Refuse collection: change of day” gave the new day as Wednesday. The new day is Thursday. The Council apologises for the error. Bins put out on Wednesday will be collected on Thursday. There is no change to Tuesday, on which there is no longer a collection.
Seabrook Town Council
Gulls
Visitors are asked not to feed the gulls on the promenade, the pier or the harbour wall. The Council has received several reports that the gulls are getting larger. It holds no measurements for earlier years and is therefore unable to comment.

Passengers are reminded that the afternoon bus from Hartbury is the 4.15 and that it leaves the interchange at 4.15. It does not wait for the train. Those who miss it are advised that Seabrook is two miles by road and that a taxi takes five minutes.

The 4.15 bus: bank holidays
On bank holidays the 4.15 bus runs to the Sunday timetable. There is no Sunday service. The Council has raised this with the operator, who confirms that the timetable is correct.

Steps from the promenade
The steps from the promenade to the High Street will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday for repairs to the handrail. Pedestrians should use Pier Approach. The Council regrets that the alternative route is longer and, in one direction, uphill.

Letters from residents
The machine
The machine. I purchased a ticket from the pay-and-display machine at the Harbour Road car park at 9.04 on Tuesday for the purpose of examining it. The day is correct. The month is correct. The year is not. I am told the ticket is valid. A document that is wrong on its face is not made right by being called valid. This is my third letter.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The deck chairs
The deck chairs. They are chained and stacked every evening at the far end of the pier in a specific arrangement. The Council has a system. I know the system. Of late they have not been as they should be: three inches this way, a different chair on top, the chain through the wrong rung. Someone is interfering with them. This is my second letter.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The collection
The collection. I was informed by notice that refuse would be collected on Wednesday. I was then informed by a second notice that it would be collected on Thursday. The lorry entered Cliff Road at 6.52 on Friday. I make no complaint about Friday. I ask that the Council decide which day it is and then inform the lorry.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The bus
The bus. The timetable at the stop gives the arrival of the 4.15 at the High Street as 4.27. It arrived at 4.31 on Monday, 4.29 on Tuesday and 4.36 on Thursday. I did not observe it on Wednesday. The operator refers me to the Council. The Council refers me to the operator. One of you is responsible.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The bandstand
The bandstand. Its restoration was reported in the Chronicle in October. I have walked through Seabrook Gardens on twenty-three mornings since then. On twenty-three I saw a fence. On two I saw a workman. I do not question the need for the work. I question whether it is being done.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The wreaths
The wreaths. On Remembrance Sunday the wreath at the foot of the war memorial carried forty-eight poppies. I counted them. On the Thursday following it carried forty-five. Wind does not remove three poppies and leave the remainder in good order. I have reported the matter to Parks and Open Spaces twice. It is not a small matter.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The beach
The beach. The notice states that dogs are not permitted on the beach from 1 May. It does not state between which points, or how far up the shingle the beach is held to extend. I walk a dog in this town every morning. I will comply with any rule that tells me where it ends. This one does not.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The van
The van. A delivery van stood outside the butcher’s on the High Street from 8.40 until 9.25 on Tuesday with its hazard lights on, blocking half the street. Hazard lights are a warning. They are not a permit. I have taken the registration and enclose it. I should be glad to learn what is done with it.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The noticeboard
The noticeboard. The board outside the Town Hall still advertises the switching on of the Christmas lights, which took place nine weeks ago. I raised this at the desk on the 3rd and was told that the board is brought up to date on the first working day of the month. The 3rd was the second working day of the month. I report the facts.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The cobbles
The cobbles. Church Row is cobbled for the first half of its length and for the second half is not. I have asked the Council on four occasions which half represents its intention. I have had no answer. A street should be one thing or the other. I am content with either. I am not content with both.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
The reply
The reply. I wrote to the Council on the 2nd, the 9th and the 16th. I have received one acknowledgement, which thanks me for my letter and does not say which. I do not write for the pleasure of it. I write because I am the only person who pays attention. I ask that this letter be recorded in the minutes.
Colonel Withers, Cliff Road
Bin day
I have put my bin out on a Tuesday for as long as there have been bins. Nobody came on Tuesday. Nobody came on Wednesday either, which is the day your notice said. I should like to know who decided this, and whether that person has ever had to bring a bin back in twice.
Mrs Hodge, Harbour Lane
The gulls
The gulls are getting larger. I have said so before and was not believed. Last Thursday one of them took a pasty out of my hand on the promenade. It took the whole pasty. I repair watches and am used to judging small differences by eye. These are not small differences.
Gerald Marsh, Market Lane
Dogs on the beach
I walk my dog on the beach early each morning, before there is anybody on it to object. I understand that from May I may not. I should be grateful if the Council would say what harm is done at that hour by one dog, and whether an exception might be made for mornings.
Mr G. Rowlands, Church Lane
In praise of the 4.15
I write in praise of the 4.15 bus. It has left Hartbury at 4.15 on every occasion I have used it in eleven years. I understand that the Council has received complaints about it. I should not like it to be altered. It is the one thing in the district that does what it says.

A visit in August
My husband and I spent a week in Seabrook in August. We wish to thank the staff of the Visitor Office, who were most helpful, and the gentleman on the pier who explained to us how the deck chairs ought to be stacked. We had not asked. It was very thorough.
