The Mariner’s Rest

Five rooms on Pier Approach. The house stands with its back to the wind and its face to the sea.

The Mariner’s Rest is a small guesthouse on Pier Approach, the short road just beyond the entrance to the pier. It is a three-storey rendered house, painted white, with blue window frames and a wooden sign above the door.

There are five guest rooms, three on the first floor and two on the second. On the ground floor are a sitting room and a breakfast room with checked tablecloths and a view of the courtyard.

Mr Edward Calder kept the house for more than twenty years, until his death in September 2025. In his time there was a newspaper in the breakfast room every morning and fresh milk in the fridge. The house has passed to his sister, Mrs Margaret Holloway, of Ealing.

The Mariner’s Rest has been closed since September. Nancy Rowe, the housekeeper, has kept it heated and in order through the winter. No bookings are being taken at present.
