Second-hand and new. A ledger, not a till.

Harper’s Bookshop is on the ground floor of a slightly leaning building midway along the High Street, between the bakery and the Seabrook Medical Centre. Mr Lionel Harper has owned it for more than thirty years.
The shop smells of paper and wood polish. The bell above the door is louder than it needs to be. Books are second-hand and new. Collections come in from house clearances in the town. Local history, coastal walks and maritime matters are at the front, with a Local Interest shelf by the window. The window display is changed every day.
An armchair stands beside the fiction shelves for the use of browsers. It is often occupied.
Mr Harper knows the history of Seabrook in some detail and will answer questions about it. Visitors should allow time.
Sales are entered by hand in a ledger, and cash is preferred. The stairs at the back of the shop lead to the office of Penrose Investigations.
